Routt County Open Burn Permit Process
Permitting in Routt County has been simplified. The permit application will determine:
- Pile size and type
- Any burn-day restrictions needed
- Any fire safety concerns

*PHOTOS ARE REQUIRED TO DECIDE WHETHER AN INSPECTION IS REQUIRED
Should the pile size be too large (Type 4) a Colorado State Prescribed Fire Permit will be required: Open burn smoke permits | Department of Public Health & Environment (colorado.gov)
Regardless of fire type, always contact your local fire district (unless you are within the Steamboat District) and Routt County Dispatch before you burn. (970) 879 1110
