What is Routt County Alerts? Routt County Alerts is our local Public Alert and Warning System. Emergency officials in Routt County need to ensure we can alert you in the event of an emergency. This system is used when emergency officials need to alert the public about events or information needed for public safety - including the protection of life and property. Routt County will use Routt County Alerts to alert residents about a variety of events, ranging from severe weather, fires, floods, and other emergencies - to more routine announcements - such as road closures. public health alerts, and major utility interruptions.
How Does It Work?
- The process begins when Routt County issues a message about a potential safety hazard or concern. Next, Routt County Alerts sends a message to your primary contact path.
- If you don't confirm receipt of the message, the system will try to reach your second contact path and continues trying to reach you until you confirm receipt.
If you have a home or business telephone through CenturyLink/Lumen, or a VOIP phone through Comcast, those numbers are automatically included, and updated annually, in our Routt County Alerts database.
When you sign up, ensure that you provide all of your contact information, including at least one valid Routt County address, cell phone numbers and email addresses.
- Since many of our alerts are based on a geographical area – ensure that you not only include your residence address, but your work address, and any other addresses that you frequently visit (relatives, etc.).

Traffic Disruption Notifications
In an effort to increase our community engagement and keep the public informed about emergency or unplanned road closures in Routt County anticipated to last more than 30 minutes, Routt County Communications will utilize its Routt County Alerts platform to send out text notifications. In order to receive these notifications, you most opt-in by texting the keyword “ROUTTTRAFFIC” to 888777.
